A message from Scarlet

I met Ross in 1993 when I was fresh out of University. He embraced me into his fold of rock and generously showed me the ropes. I learnt:

1

How to meet people and influence them.

2

How it is ok to call a PR a fucking cunt if they are slightly irritating.

3

That you should call band members things like 'big nose' and 'baldy' if they have a slighty large nose or are receding a little.

4

Always call bands member by their original name eg: Eddie Vedder = Edward or Mr Vedder and Slash = Saul or Mr Hudson etc...

5

If you don't get an Access All Areas pass to shoot a gig go spastic at everyone and/or threaten to leave until you do get one.

6

How to count big wedges of cash.

7

Where every Tower Records in the world is.

8

How to go to the gym, preferably gay ones.

9

All about krell men.

10

Never drive if you can help it and NEVER EVER carry your own camera bags.

11

How airmiles work and the luxury of flying business class.

12

How to talk to check in staff (ie: be authoritive until you get seat 1a) and never pay excess baggage on your 50 bags of lighting equipment.

13

Everybody is a wanker until proven otherwise.

14

Always have a copy of Forum to take on long journeys.

15

Give key band members presents - always looks good.

16

How to talk silently to yourself and shake your head when irritated (like a crazy freako).

17

A whole new language or halfinisms ie: kicks, nick, Godzilla ...the list is endless.

18

Remember you are always more important/famous than the band you are photographing and should be treated with the respect you deserve...do they know who I am?

19

The Sunset Marquis should be your home from home.

20

As you may have noticed I haven't mentioned anything technical about photography, that is because he is not interested.

This man is a legend.

I hope one day to have learnt all of the above and be just like him ... somehow I doubt it will ever be possible!
