March 3rd
Get invited by Jimmy Page to go to a tribute lunch at the
very posh Savoy hotel. I'm his guest and bodyguard (ha,ha). The
lunch is for Jim Marshall, amp maker to the stars, well you know
if you
don't use one of his amps you must be on planet Mars. We expected
it to be a rock'n roll party. We couldn't have been more wrong.
It's a who's who of the British variety club and T.V. I'm probably
the
youngest there, even Jimmy seems young and he's 60...... We sit
at a table with Paul Daniels and his wife Debbie (both are very
very
very nice) and Paul is very funny. |

Also at the table are Nicholas Parsons and Dame Vera Lynn (who
tried to get Jimmy evicted from Plumpton when he lived there, she
claimed he was bad for the village). He introduces himself
as her former neighbour. Bert Weedon is introduced, he must be
about
a hundred and 80 (actually he's 83).If you are not English,
you won't have any idea who he is and I'm not gonna explain. Get
a picture of Jimmy and Jim, strangely they've never met before.
Nicko, from Maiden is also here. |
I didn't realise Jim Marshall started
out as a drummer and taught Mitch Michell, Nicko and various
others to play. Strange old day but very enjoyable.Get the
new issue of Uncut on the way home, good PT interview plus they
used a picture of mine of him with the Gibson acoustic.
I've had some t-shirts designed, they look great - I'll have them for
sale on the web soon.
January 16th
Slash, Munky, Daron Malakian, Dean DeLeo, John Frusciante, Tom
Morello all turn up at 6pm to do my idea (well, Brad Tolinski's as
well) of the ultimate guitarists. |
Jimmy, Slash, Wilf and I escape from Zakk to the House Of Blues,
meet up with Joe and his bodyguard "Rock'n Roll John Bionelli" to
see the godfather of soul James Brown (he is amazing). |
I've never seen him before. He's 70 years old.
Go backstage to say hello. Everyone is calling each other by there
surnames e.g:
Mr. Brown, Mr. Page, Mr. Perry... Get a quick snap of everyone
together. We all walk back to the hotel along Fountain. It's funny
watching people's faces when they realise who is walking along
the street.
